Architectural Design I (ARC60208) is structured as an introduction to architectural design. This preliminary design module aims to present and explain design through the expression of the perception of ‘self’ and the body, construction, and materiality in terms of tectonics.

01 Geometry & Form

This project aims to introduce basic understanding of architectural design elements and principles, processes, and approaches in generating ideas, developing design, creating geometric 2D artworks (tattoo stamp) and 3D forms (model).

02 Structure & Body

This project explores the notion of how architectural design can impact a space and its users and how one can be an agent of change within the context of architecture.

03 Space & Sensory

Architecture, in addition to pleasing the eye and meeting the needs of the human body (i.e. anthropometrics and ergonomics) must also satisfy the needs of the human soul (mind, emotion and will). Therefore as architects, we should not just make spaces that are beautiful, functional and fit for purpose, we should also consider if our spaces are inspiring, poetic, or uplifting.

"Architectural Design 1" was a pivotal exploration of design principles and teamwork, shaping my foundational understanding of architecture. The lectures, rich with insights, were conduits to a profound comprehension of design nuances. The lecturers, being fountains of knowledge, generously shared advice and constructive criticism during Interim Critiques. Their guidance was instrumental, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The collaborative spirit within the module heightened my appreciation for diverse perspectives, honing my ability to work synergistically. As I reflect, the amalgamation of theoretical knowledge, practical application, and constructive feedback has left an indelible mark, significantly influencing my evolving approach to architectural design.
